Job sharing in senior roles for businesses in Wales

A way of working that would simultaneously allow women to reduce hours and allow their employers to reap the full benefits of having a full-time employee.

Two ( or more ) part-time employees to share the work.

What highly-qualified women in the workplace seem to need is a way of working that would simultaneously allow them to reduce hours and allow their employers to reap the full benefits of having a full-time employee.

Job sharing seems to offer this option, as it enables two ( or more ) part-time employees to share the work and pay of a single full-time position. It has been described as sustainable, commercially competitive, and best-fitted to open up senior roles to women ( Capability Jane, 2011 ).

A study of the perceived benefits, barriers and success factors of job sharing in senior positions in Wales.

An in-house report by Chwarae Teg produced in March 2014 also underscored the importance of job sharing in allowing women to progress to senior management levels.

While a fair amount is known about how to make job sharing work ( e.g. Capability Jane, 2011 PDF), a study of the perceived benefits, barriers and success factors of job sharing in senior positions in Wales will help to deepen our understanding of the local issues and help Chwarae Teg develop the support the businesses in Wales require.
