Q1. Who are you?

Harlequin Printing and Packaging Ltd are an established commercial print and packaging company, whose main activities are the print, production and storage/delivery of digital, lithographic, packaging, large format, exhibition & point of sale print. Harlequin is able to offer both digital and traditional litho print options, thereby allowing us to offer Chwarae Teg the most cost effective route to produce the most diverse print requirements by means of quoting and producing the job via the most efficient production process. For instance, the digital press is ideal for short run flyers, postcard, brochure and envelope print and personalisation, whilst the B1 Heidelberg litho presses are better suited and therefore more cost efficient when it comes to the larger volume, high quality print runs. Combined with 24 hour shift patterns and inbuilt press and finishing capacity, Harlequin is also able to guarantee that we can deliver urgent jobs within a very short timeframe, allowing the flexibility to deal with seasonal demand.

Harlequin are well blessed with regard to storage and the group of companies also own many industrial units both within the south Wales area and across the UK. The large format department can produce banner and pop up stands, internal and external signage, as well as a large range of substrates including pvc, Foamex and window vinyl. We’re also able to offer a design and installation service for customers that require bespoke graphic installation. The company will occasionally require the services of external suppliers to assist with specialist print finishing requirements such as foil blocking, but otherwise, all other elements of the production process are completed on site.

The company is financially stable and has on-going expansion plans that include the recent order of a new digital press, together with inline gluing lines for the packaging division. Future plans also include expansion of the existing premises and further acquisitions. Harlequin is accredited and operates to ISO and food packaging BRC standards, and also have environmental and FSC operating systems in place.

Design studio: The studio offers a full range of design and proofing services, and handles the daily requirements of the digital, litho, large format and packaging divisions of the company. This allows Harlequin to design a job from concept through to print, or make changes (author’s corrections) to artwork supplied by the customer, also offering customers the chance to discuss their design requirements on site if required.

Digital printing: Suitable for short to medium print runs of mono and 4 colour print jobs. The Ricoh 7110X press has ancillary finishing equipment including, fold, crease, stitch and binding finishes as well as collation options. It is suitable for both uncoated and coated sheets up to 350gsm in weight. The digi press is also capable of printing white and clear ink, and can print on a sheet up to 700mm, allowing us to offer a cost effective alternative to litho print for shorter print runs.

Litho print: Two B1 Heidelberg presses allow Harlequin to quote competitively and produce high quality print in the B2 and B1 markets, from short to medium and higher volumes, onto a range of coated and uncoated papers and boards.

Finishing: The finishing department offers a full range of folding, creasing, stitching, binding, die cut, gluing, and collation and fulfilment services.

Large format: This department is able to produce posters, signage, banner and pop up stands, and can facilitate the build and installation of exhibition conference stands, and shop re-fits.

Harlequin appoint dedicated account managers to oversee the contract throughout its duration. From an initial phone call or e-mail, the account manager liaises directly with the customer and will manage the contract through the estimate, proof, production/finishing processes to the final invoicing stage.

Harlequin are an approved NPS framework supplier, and are well versed with the requirements of the public sector, with over 20 years of experience in dealing with print projects for the public sector as a whole.

Q2. Why are you supporting the awards? Why does gender equality matter to you?

Regardless of where you live, gender equality is a fundamental human right and should be acknowledged as such.
