We are pleased to announce that Football Association of Wales are the partner sponsor at this year’s Womenspire Awards!
We spoke to Safeguarding & Player Welfare Manager – Siân Jones, about the organisation and what it means to them to be part of Womenspire18!

Q1. Tell us about your organisation

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is the third oldest association in the world, having come into existence in 1876. The association has governed football in Wales continually since that date.

In recent years the FAW have been developing a growth strategy for women in football, which aims to increase the number of women and girls involved in the game.

Q2. Why are you supporting the awards?

The FAW are supporting the Womenspire Awards as they are a fantastic celebration and important recognition of the work of incredible women and role models across many different sectors in Wales.

Q3. Why does gender equality matter to you?

Football is often seen as a male dominated arena. The rise of women’s football and women in football has been astronomical and has shown that football is not just for men.

At The FAW, we want to continue to change the landscape and perception of women in sport and encourage women to become involved in football.

For us, supporting fairness and gender equality makes common sense. Increasing the diversity in the workforce offers many positives to our association and adds to our talent pool.

Q4. Why do you support the work of Chwarae Teg?

We are passionate about the inspiring work Chwarae Teg do in encouraging and developing women in the workplace. We want to make sure that women have access to leadership training and are able to receive the benefits of that.

Many FAW female staff have undertaken Chwarae Teg’s leadership qualification, which significantly improved the confidence of those who received the training and support from Chwarae Teg.

In supporting Wales’ leading gender equality charity, we hope we can work alongside Chwarae Teg to further improve the skills and confidence of our female staff and women in football in Wales.
